THE SOCIAL NETWORK:The commissioning editor for drama in RTÉ, Jane Gogan, was at the launch of the Darklight Festival, in the Factory on Barrow Street, Dublin, on Thursday evening. She is not long back from a holiday in Normandy with her husband, Eamon Dunphy. Jane is a cousin of Nicky Gogan, the festival's director and programmer.

Darklight celebrates the best of independent DIY animation, visual effects and artist film. YouTube DJ Daniel Gray provided the background music as guests gathered for the the opening film, the Irish premiere of the charming documentary Grandma Lo-fi. It was followed by a QA session from the director Kristín Björk Kristjánsdóttir, who will perform her own music as Kira Kira at the Darklight Party in Hogan’s on Fade Street this evening.

One of this year’s highlights is a public interview with English director Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea, The House of Mirth, The Long Day Closes) about his life and work as a filmmaker. It takes place this evening, following a screening of Davies’s Of Time and the City in the Factory at 6.30pm. The discussion will be hosted by Donald Clarke of The Irish Times.
