Amusing hungry kids on a Sunday afternoon can be hard enough, but add in some wet Irish weather and you’ll be hard-pressed to keep them entertained.

One Galway hotel has come up with a great solution: from 2pm- 5pm every Sunday the House Hotel’s Kiddies’ Kitchen gives children the chance to don aprons and chef’s hats and cook up a storm.

At a special “cooking station” in the hotel restaurant they can make their own pizzas under the watchful eye of chef Katarzyna Glogowska, by rolling out balls of pre-prepared dough, adding sauce and their favourite toppings. These are then cooked in the hotel kitchen and served up to the little masterchefs – all while Mum and Dad relax over a cup of coffee or their own lunch.

After that, it’s back to the Kiddies’ Kitchen to make dessert. When we visited last weekend, we saw some gravity-defying concoctions being constructed from cake, ice-cream, meringues, cream and an endless supply of sprinkles, sauces and toppings – and some very happy children.
