Ever thought about learning a language or picking up an instrument, or have you ever been so frustrated at not being able to solve a Rubik’s Cube that you wished you could find a professional to help you on your way? Okay, perhaps the last example may be stretching it for most of us – yet this is one of the services included in a new online directory for lesson providers in Ireland.

Mindhives.com is an interactive directory of lesson providers throughout the country that allows users to search by their location or their preferred lesson. Users can view teachers’ qualifications and prices and then contact them through the site.

The new Irish start-up company went live in November and has received funding from the Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown County Enterprise Board. It has also been nominated for the Irish Web Awards and is supported by Enterprise Ireland, having earned a place in the DIT Hothouse incubation programme, a support programme for technology-based start-up businesses.

Mindhives.com was set up by three friends, Gavin Bourke and Peter Ryan from Kilkenny (pictured) and Brian Malone from Portlaoise. The idea came to them after Bourke underwent a frustrating search for a guitar instructor.

“Mindhives.com acts as a centre stage for lesson providers to promote themselves, while simultaneously giving the general public the widest choice of teachers to select from,” Bourke says. To celebrate its launch, the company is offering 200 free 12-month subscriptions for lesson providers throughout Ireland. See mindhives.com.
