Mullet pulled for hairesy
America's secretive Amish community was this week exposed to publicity when one of its leaders, Sam Mullet, and six other men were arrested in eastern Ohio for allegedly cutting the beards and hairof Amish men and women and then taking pictures of them. It is alleged that Mullet was a controlling leader who punished those who disagreed with his methods and religious beliefs. The Amish number about 61,000 members, who consider their beards and hair sacred, with trimming seen as a violent and humiliating act. Other Amish practices include forgoing modern conveniences and travelling by horse and cart.
