The play's the bling

THE SOCIAL NETWORK: My Cousin Rachel, at the Gate in Dublin, is full of jealousy

THE SOCIAL NETWORK:My Cousin Rachel, at the Gate in Dublin, is full of jealousy. It spilled off the stage and into the theatre during Wednesday's opening night. The designer Peter O'Brien said he had "costume envy". The PR executive Rhona Blake, who was sporting a fine rock sourced by the late jeweller Matty Ryan, loved the dresses and the jewellery. Michael Mortell's partner, Oonagh Finn, was also envious of the costumes. Mortell is opening his new shop on Francis Street on May 10th.

The actor Hannah Yelland, who gave a stellar performance as Rachel Coryn Ashley, told me, “Yelland is a stage name – my father, the actor David Yelland, also uses it.” She was congratulated by her mother, Gill Roberts. Joseph O’Connor, who adapted the play, was there with his wife, Anne-Marie Casey, and son James. His father, Sean, also enjoyed the show.

Barbara Brennan and her sister Cathryn Brennan turned up to support their brother Stephen. “We’re all actors in our family,” said Barbara. “Nobody has any sense.”

Who we spotted: the playwright and director Conor McPherson; former chair of the Abbey Eithne Healy; the artist Gay O'Neill, the actor Amy Shiels; the actor Leslie Lalor and her daughter Niamh Hogan, whose father is the actor Bosco Hogan.
