Here’s a game that might help while away a rainy summer’s night. Haikubes is the latest invention from the creators of the endless boardgame called Cranium, which became popular around the time that coffee shops added comfortable couches and, well, coffee tables to their decor.

This appealingly elegant and easily portable set of 63 cubes is designed to help you create a haiku – just roll a few of the cubes, and use the words that come up to create your perfect poem with just three lines and 17 syllables. Think of it as 3-D magnetic poetry with firmer rules. Haikubes come from Chronicle Books (€20), and can be found in or ordered from bookshops.
