Tried and tested: jelly skincare

Jelly cleansers and masks are the next big thing. But are they any good?

Bioessence Miracle Bio Water Jelly Make Up Remover £16

This Korean brand was the first jelly cleanser I used and it’s a total wonder. I immediately predicted a raft of this type of product on the Western market and we’re beginning to see them break through now. This cleanser feels light, fresh, removes makeup easily and has a lovely slippy texture. Suitable for all skin types. cultbeauty.co.uk

Nude Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly £32

Now this doesn’t really have a true jelly texture, but Nude always like to do things a little differently. It’s a gel formula that emulsifies and becomes milky when water is added. Full of nourishing ingredients it will suit any skin type. Massage into dry skin and then add water to remove. Your skin will feel soft and comforted.

Dior Hydra Life Jelly Sleeping Mask

Forget about all the fancy descriptions about sublime hydration and all that spiel. With this mask we’re sucking diesel. It has a lovely firm gel texture; apply it after you’ve cleansed and you really will wake up with refreshed and softer skin in the morning. I panic if I don’t apply essence and serum though so I did use these underneath, but in a daring move I skipped the facial oil. This will be very good for anyone with dehydrated skin, whether you’re oily or dry.

Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Brightening Night Capsules €80

These capsules are not marketed as a jelly product but they should be. My joy upon twisting them open was akin to an overexcited child at Christmas. They’re so small you think one can’t possibly cover your entire face, but it does. With a good mix of antioxidants and skin brighteners your skin will feel soft and hydrated. Many of you will be able to skip moisturiser after using one of these capsules, they’re so effective.

Shiseido Ibuki Beauty Sleeping Mask €44

With a formula that looks and like ectoplasm I was dying to try this jelly sleeping mask. The formula works for hours to moisturise with tiny vitamin capsules in the gel. I used it first while on a Netflix binge one Sunday. The gel is very cooling and soothing. However alcohol is way up on the list of ingredients and this drives me mad as its not a good ingredient for skin. Sometimes a certain amount of alcohol is necessary to keep a formula stable but there is way too much in here. Having said that I did like this mask a lot. It just needs to dial down on the alcohol content.

Aisling Loves... L’Occitane Pivoine Perfecting Makeup Remover €23

L’Occitane are quite often among the first to embrace a new trend. This is something not many people associate with the brand but I frequently find them well ahead of the pack. This cleanser is my new favourite thing. I’ve been using it every morning and night which is unusual for me as I have to chop and change so much in order to try everything out. I really like this soft pink jelly as there’s no feeling of tightness after cleansing, just softness.
