ARTS FESTIVAL

Starting tomorrow at Ballaghaderreen in Co Roscommon, the annual Solas Festival is on this weekend and includes treasure hunting, open-air discos and live music, as well as a farmers’ market on Saturday. See ballaghadvertiser.com.

Two worthwhile causes, one fighting racism and the other battling child poverty, join forces tomorrow night at the Sweeney Mongrel on Dame Street. The line-up includes DJs Calvin James and Sophie De Vere, while live music comes from Squarehead, Robotnik and others. Admission is free, but a €5 donation at the door is encouraged. Doors 8.30pm.

LADIES POLO TOURNAMENT

This coming weekend, the final of the International Ladies Polo tournament takes place in Ballyhenry, Co Wicklow, on Sunday, with teams from the US, Ireland and the UK. All proceeds go towards the Women’s Fund, and entry for cars costs €10. Gates open at 1.30pm. See polowicklow.com.

FAME THE MUSICAL

Thanks to RTÉ’s recent TV series, there is strong interest in what would otherwise be a standard summer musical run at the Grand Canal Theatre. Starring Sheila Ferguson, Jessica Cervi and Ben Morris and directed by Bryan Flynn, the show opens tonight and tickets are priced from €25. See grandcanaltheatre.ie.
