Riesling Tasting

Regular readers will be aware of my love for Riesling, and German Riesling in particular

Regular readers will be aware of my love for Riesling, and German Riesling in particular. For fellow aficionados, and those who still need convincing, Wines of Germany are holding their most ambitious event ever on Friday, June 19th, in the Westbury Hotel in Dublin.

If you still think all German wines are sweet, then this is your chance to discover a new world of Riesling Trockens and Halb-trockens, superb dry and off-dry wines that are as good as any white wine the world over. If this is not enough, there will also be a few other grape varieties, including my latest interest, Silvaner. Earlier this year, I spent a very happy hour tasting a range of Silvaners, mainly from the Würzburg area; there were some exquisite wines on show. There will be more than 100 wines, and 23 winegrowers, including several of the greatest estates, on hand to help guide you through German Riesling. Tickets for the event, which will run in the Westbury’s Grafton Suite from 4pm until 7pm, cost €15 per person. Bookings can be made with the Wines of Germany office in Dublin, tel: 01-6424335.
