Aoife Tunney, model, journalist, charity worker
Aoife Tunney is turning music promoter this week to raise money for a trip to Belarus in April, when she will drive an ambulance filled with toys, food and medical aid to benefit the Chernobyl Children's Project.
She hopes that two gigs taking place in Whelan's will raise the €15,000 required to buy the second-hand ambulance. Mick Pyro of the Republic of Loose, Bronagh Gallagher and Nina Hynes will play on Tuesday. Luka Bloom will take to the stage on Wednesday, along with Mundy and burlesque dancers from Dublin's Tassel Club. The anti-nuclear movement is in Tunney's blood; in the 1970s, her parents protested against the proposed nuclear power plant in Carnsore Point, Co Wexford, and she herself has been a donor to the Chernobyl Children's Project since meeting Adi Roche in 2001. Last year she applied to participate in one of the annual convoys, but had to postpone it while she sat her finals in journalism in DCU. This year - the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl explosion - will be the biggest convoy yet, with 27 ambulances. Whelan's, Wexford Street, Dublin 2, 8pm, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Admission: €18. Conor Goodman
