First athletes, then business, now Motiv8 launches its first teenage Performance Excellence Academy for aspiring young sportspeople this August in UCD. But, says Enda McNulty, it’s not an elite summer school – the idea is “to help kids achieve their potential, whatever that is”.

Nor is it specific to a particular sport. “In addition to athletic development and overall conditioning, we’ll teach them team building and leadership, and work on certain key aspects of character development – confidence, discipline, mental toughness and communication . . . All skills they will need for their school life, their college life and their working life. We will also talk to them about nutrition.” McNulty and brother Justin, who themselves both won All-Ireland medals for Armagh in 2002, also work with the likes of young rugby player Luke Fitzgerald and 400m runner David Gillick. The academy runs from August 10th-14th for 13-15 year olds and from August 17th-21st for 16-19 year olds. Each programme will run from 9am to 4pm daily and costs €325 (discount of €25 available for further family members).
