Philosopher Hugh Cummins will pose some really big questions during his quirky five-week UCD adult education course, Philosophy in the Matrix. Referencing the popular 1999 Wachowski brothers’ film, he asks: What is real? Can we be certain of anything? Is ignorance bliss?
These classes, which commence on February 3rd, reference key thinkers from Plato to Baudrillard and explore fundamental religious themes, particularly that of gnosticism – the ancient belief that we are divine souls trapped in a material world. The screening of relevant scenes will explore the relationship of these key philosophical concepts to the sci-fi blockbuster. See www.ucd.ie/adultedor tel: 01-7167123 for further details.
