Two bottles of cheap wine are profiled
Domaine Uby, Colombard No.3, Vin de pays des Côtes de Gascogne 2007, 11.5%, €8.99-€9.95. A brilliant value, fresh, fruity dry wine with a lovely zippy lemony cut. Perfect summer drinking, by itself or with seafood and salads. Stockists: Holland's of Bray, Co Wicklow; Sheils Off-Licence, Dublin 1; Unwined, Swords; Drink Store, Dublin 3; Florrie's Fine Wines, Waterford; McPhail's, Drogheda.
Domaine La Casenove La Colomina 2005, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes, 14.5%, €10.95. From one of the finest producers in the Roussillon, this is a delicious, fairly full-bodied wine that develops with every sip. It has far more elegance than you would expect, lovely velvety tannins and very good length. One of the most attractive wines in this price bracket I have tasted in a while. Stockist: Terroirs, Donnybrook.
