This Tuesday, the Young European Strings (YES) school, which is based in Templeogue, Dublin 6W, will celebrate its 21st year with a gala concert in the National Gallery of Ireland, Merrion Square.
Violinists Catherine Leonard, David O'Doherty, Gwendolyn Masin and Gina McGuinness, all former pupils of Maria Kelemen and Ronald Masin's YES, will join the current orchestra (above), whose members range in age from nine to 16. The programme includes Vivaldi's Concerto for three violins, harpsichord and string orchestra in F major; Mozart's Divertimento in D major for string orchestra; and a set of Jewish-Hungarian melodies. The concert starts at 8pm with an address by Martin Mansergh, Minister of State for Arts, Sports and Tourism.
