If you’re looking for a family holiday with a difference, a corporate cocoon, or you’re just a hermit at heart, Inishturkbeg, an island in Clew Bay off the coast of Co Mayo, could be the getaway for you. This “imperfect paradise”, owned by Nadim Sadek, is available to rent. It sleeps up to 44 people in 21 bedrooms, in seven different houses, including one on the mainland. Included in the price is a chef, and you can call on the island’s caretakers for help.

Features include the Island House, with an infinity pool and jacuzzi, games room, gym area and a fully kitted-out presentation room for up to 30 people. Spa treatments can be arranged. There is also a Craft House, for those with a creative bent. Six horses are available for riding around the island, and visitors can go and see the Inishturkbed Stud Connemaras. For the sporty, there is an all-weather pitch for tennis and basketball, a football field (which can be used as a helipad), and numerous boats. For those inclined towards the good life, there are strawberries to be picked, eggs to be collected and sheep to be fed. Prices range from €2,250 per person for two people for three nights, coming down to €260 per person for 40 people. Corporate prices are from €905 per person for six people for two nights, to €410 per night for 17. Longer stays are available. www.inishturkbeg.com.
