Druid Theatre Company's spotlight on emerging writers continues next week, as part of Cuirt International Festival of Literature which kicks off in Galway on Monday, April 23rd and runs until Sunday, April 29th. The fourth play in the series of Druid Debuts is It Just Came Out by Christian O'Reilly, a Galway-based film, TV and radio scriptwriter, who recently won a P.J. O' Connor award. Selected by Druid's literary manager, Charlie McBride, the play will have semi-staged performances, directed by Audrey Devereux, at Druid Lane Theatre from April 25th-28th.
Christian O'Reilly follows Paul O'Brien (The Bower Wall), Paul Kennedy (Desert Places) and Gerald Murphy (The Welcome) in the Debut series, which is giving much-needed support and feedback to new writers. The importance of steering writers through all stages of production and investing in new talent has also been recognised by the Dublin Fringe Festival and Rough Magic Theatre which have joined forces to commission and stage new plays from six writers. The initiative, called Seeds, will be launched next Tuesday, when the six selected writers will be announced.
Details of all Cuirt events are in the festival programme, available from Galway Arts Centre, tel: 091-565886 and Town Hall Theatre, tel: 091-569777.
