Wind and rain made the hillside Cairndhu coarse even more challenging for yesterday’s second and final round of the €15,000 annual PGA Pro-am tournament, at the Ballygally club on the Antrim coastline. However, overnight leader Damian Mooney clung on to top the leaderboard for the second day running.

A two-over-par 72 was good enough to collect the winner’s cheque when added to his opening three-under-67. Mooney finished a shot clear of Wayne O’Callaghan and Brendan McGovern, who bettered his opening 71 by two shots.

Mooney’s birdie threes at the first, fourth and ninth holes were wiped out by a hat-trick of bogey fives at five, seven and eight to leave the winner out in regulation 34.

Back-to-back bogeys at the short 11th and par four 12th holes plus seven pars on the back nine gave the Ballyliffin attaché top spot.
