Drugs squad officers in the north-west said yesterday they had dealt a major blow to drugs gangs in the area following the biggest ever seizure of cannabis resin on the outskirts of Derry City.
The drugs, with a street value of just over £500,000, were found in a hedgerow at Aughtagh Road near Claudy after a member of the public had reported seeing suspicious activity.
Uniformed officers found 50 kilos of cannabis resin packed into two black nylon hold-alls, each of which contained 25 kilos of the drug.
