A former employee of the international financial conglomerate Citigroup has been awarded €10,000 in compensation by the Equality Tribunal after she was found to have been victimised by the company.
Marian Cassidy claimed that she was victimised as a result of taking a previous equality case, when she was transferred to a job within the group's trustees department in Dublin. She said this required less experience and represented a "move sidewards".
She also claimed that she was victimised after disciplinary proceedings were initiated against her in relation to her sick leave record during 2004. She eventually tendered her resignation in November 2005.
Citigroup had denied the complaint of victimisation.
In its ruling, the tribunal found that Ms Cassidy had failed to establish a prima facie case of victimisation in relation to the disciplinary proceeding arising from her sick leave record.
However, it found Citigroup had victimised her in relation to her transfer to its Luxembourg team in March 2004. It awarded her €10,000 in compensation for her distress and breach of rights.
