A man with a £200-aday drug habit has been jailed for 10 years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for an attempted post office robbery using a syringe.

John Golding (35), a father of four, of Bunratty Road, Coolock, Dublin, admitted assaulting Ms Sandra Traynor at Priorswood Post Office, Clonshaugh, on March 27th last with intent to rob.

Det Garda Patrick O'Toole said Golding made a statement of admission after his arrest but denied he attempted to use the syringe, which he claimed was clean. Judge Kelly fixed October 15th, 2000, as a review date for Golding's sentence.
