A distribution company in Walkinstown, Co Dublin, is to go into liquidation in the next two to three weeks with the loss of over 100 jobs.

The company, Sydney Cooper Distribution, is closing after Dunnes Stores, its main customer, decided to change to other distributors. The company, in Ballymount Industrial Estate, is believed to have been experiencing losses at various times in the last few years.

A source in Dunnes Stores said it was happy with the service provided by the company and did not want to change to other distribution companies. However, the source said Dunnes Stores had found the cost of using Sydney Cooper "too high".

"Dunnes were happy with the service but we had no choice but to make alternative arrangements as Sydney Cooper was charging us rates that were too high," he added.
