Major alterations to the design of an apartment complex being built at Augustine Street, in one of the oldest parts of Dublin, have followed the discovery of the remains of more than 100 medieval skeletons there, stacked four and five deep right to the edge of the street.

Reporting to yesterday's monthly meeting of Dublin City Council's cultural committee, the City Archaeologist, Ms Daire O'Rourke, said the find represented a "major medieval burial ground" of the 12th or 13th centuries, perhaps related to the hospital of St John the Baptist, which existed at that time nearby.
