The north Cork village of Lombardstown will commemorate the centenary of a railway crash in which one man died and 90 suffered injuries by unveiling a specially commissioned commemorative stone.
On August 5th, 1912, a train conveying 250 English holidaymakers back to the ferry in Dublin from Killarney crashed as it entered Lombardstown railway station. Most of the serious injuries occurred to the passengers who were in the first carriage where a number of people were trapped in the wreckage.
The official unveiling of the stone will take place on August 6th at 1.30pm.
