A SOLDIER who broke his ankle while playing football has been awarded £12,800 damages against the Minister for Defence in the Circuit Civil Court.

Mr Breffni Gordon, counsellor Sgt David Larkin, said his client had been in plaster for up to eight weeks and was on crutches for more than four months. He still suffered pain while performing outdoor manoeuvres in the cold.

Sgt Larkin, of Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, and Casement Grove, Finglas West, said he had missed out on an overseas trip to Lebanon and other special duties because of his injury. Liability had been conceded in the case.
