Thirteen candidates will contest the Dublin West byelection on October 27th to fill the Dáil vacancy caused by the death of the former Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan.
Cllr Patrick Nulty of Labour is the favourite with bookmakers, with the Fine Gael candidate Cllr Eithne Loftus, the second favourite. However, Cllr Ruth Coppinger of the Socialist Party is also considered a strong candidate.
The Fianna Fáil candidate is Cllr David McGuinness. Sinn Féin candidate Cllr Paul Donnelly is expected to improve greatly on its 6 per cent showing in the general election. The Green Party candidate is Roderic O’Gorman with Peadar
Ó Ceallaigh representing Fis Nua. The non-party candidates are: Gary Bermingham; Barry Caesar Hunt; Benny Cooney; Brendan Doris; John Kidd; and Jim Tallon.
