Fourteen soldiers and a lorry driver were taken to hospital after an Army truck and a lorry collided in Co Longford yesterday.
The Army vehicle was returning with soldiers from a training exercise when the incident took place outside Granard.
"There were 12 soldiers in the back of the truck and two in the front. All of them were taken to hospital," said Comdt Kieran Carey, press officer of the Defences Forces' Western Brigade.
Ten of the soldiers were taken to Cavan General Hospital, and four to Mullingar General Hospital. One lost consciousness at the scene, but later came around and was being monitored last night by medical staff.
None of the injuries suffered by the 14 are thought to be serious.
The driver of the other vehicle, a commercial lorry, was also taken to Cavan General Hospital, where it is understood he was treated for minor injuries.
The accident occurred at 3.45pm on the N55 at Creevy, two kilometres outside Granard.
The soldiers were travelling back to a barracks in Cavan after completing a day of training at Carna firing range outside Athlone.
The road outside Granard remained closed for a long period yesterday.
Investigations into the incident by both the Garda and the Defence Forces are taking place.
