Johannesburg - Fifteen South African gold miners were trapped 2,100 metres (6,900 feet) underground after a tremor that registered 2.9 on the Richter scale, the mining company, African Rainbow Minerals Ltd, said last night.
"Rescue teams were on site soon after the incident and immediately began clearing the obstructions to reach the missing miners," the company said in a statement. A spokesman for the company said it had no information on the condition of the miners.
