Lagos - Nigerian newspapers reported yesterday that at least 150 people were killed when a petrol tanker lost control and crashed into a long queue of vehicles in south-west Nigeria at the weekend.
Police in the Ile-Ife area in south-west Osun State could not immediately verify the death toll but confirmed the accident occurred on Sunday on the Ibadan-Ife highway, some 250 km north of the commercial capital Lagos.
Newspapers said the fuel tanker rammed into the vehicles which were queueing at a police road block.
