A welder who has difficulty kneeling as a result of injuries suffered in a car crash has been awarded €158,000 damages by the High Court.

Michael Hogan (39), Knockdalton, Nenagh, Co Tipperary, had sued Edmund Ryan, Dualla Village, Cashel, Co Tipperary, as a result of the incident in Co Tipperary on September 4th, 2008.

Mr Hogan was on his way home from work and dozing in the back seat of a van being driven by another person when the crash occurred involving the defendant’s car. The van careered across the road on impact and went through a wall. Mr Hogan’s knee struck the seat in front of him and he suffered knee and back injuries.

Ms Justice Iseult O’Malley said the case was before her for assessment of damages. She awarded a total of €158,000.
