The Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Mr Fahey, has approved a £15 million development for Rossaveal harbour in Connemara, writes Lorna Siggins. The development will include a deep-water berth and breakwater and provision of a ferry pier. The decision is based on the recommendations of a consultancy study which Mr Fahey commissioned after taking office in February.
Rossaveal, which is in the Minister's Galway West constituency, is a transit point for Aran Islands ferry traffic. Over 200 people are employed on local vessels and some 700 jobs in the area depend on commercial fishing.
