Madrid - Nineteen people died and 23 others were seriously injured when a busload of Spanish pensioners veered off a highway and crashed yesterday in the southern Spanish province of Huelva.
The injured passengers, many of whom were said to be in serious condition, were taken to local hospitals as rescue workers struggled to free at least five victims trapped in the wreckage. The bus carrying the elderly from the north-east province of Catalonia was touring the Huelva sierra when the accident occurred around 2 p.m. near the town of La Palma del Condado.
