Two men have been charged at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin in connection with what a senior Garda described as a "Real IRA" robbery at the Purty Kitchen pub in Dun Laoghaire earlier this month.
Mr Brian Cavlan (25), Dungannon, Co Tyrone, was charged with membership of an unlawful organisation. Mr Anthony Walsh (23), Rath new, Co Wicklow, was charged with the possession of a Beretta semi-automatic shotgun and a Smith & Wesson revolver with intent to commit a robbery at the Purty Kitchen on November 13th.
Det Supt Peter Maguire said an armed robbery was carried out by the "Real IRA".
Mr Michael O'Higgins SC, for Mr Cavlan, applied to the court to discharge his client immediately on the grounds that the 1939 order covering the suppression of unlawful organisations did not refer to the "Real IRA". The court rejected Mr O'Higgins's application and remanded the two men in custody until next Wednesday.
