A keen pianist who injured her neck when a car-park barrier fell on her in Blackrock, Co Dublin, has been awarded €20,000 damages in the Circuit Court.
Bridget Leopold (55), Cherrywood Grove, Clondalkin, Dublin, told Judge Jacqueline Linnane that she still suffered pain in her shoulders and neck.
Barrister Sasha Gayer told the court that Ms Leopold, a theology student, had been shopping in Blackrock village in August 2003 and had left her car in Superquinn’s car park. As she walked under the open barrier, it descended on her without warning.
Judge Linnane said she did not accept all of Ms Leopold’s current complaints were attributable to the 2003 accident and awarded her €17,500 general damages and €2,500 expenses.
