A textile factory in Randalstown, Co Antrim is expected to close with the loss of over 200 jobs.

The Coats Viyella's Dorma factory in County Antrim which employs 220 people announced last year that it was to be sold as part of a scaling back of business. But the deal to sell the plant, which manufactures bed wear fell through.

Mr Peter Booth of the Transport and General Workers Union said "the news represents a tragic loss to the workforce and their families, as well as the community."

He added: "We are sure that there is always going to be a market for the factory's products, and whilst the announcement is disappointing, we will continue to talk with Coats and look for every opportunity to continue manufacturing on this site."
