Cocaine results:

- Some 4.3 per cent of men and 1.4 per cent of women in the Republic had tried cocaine at least once.

- The majority, 83 per cent, of these took cocaine less than once a week.

- Seventy-seven per cent had sourced the drug from family, friends or associates.

- Sixty per cent of men and 40 per cent of women sourced it in the house of a friend, with 43 per cent of men and 20 per cent of women sourcing it in a pub or club, almost always from somebody they know.

- Sixty-one per cent of regular users had stopped taking cocaine, 31.8 per cent had never tried to stop and 6.5 per cent had tried to stop but failed.

- Affordability was the most common reason for stopping, with 42 per cent who had stopped citing this as the main reason.
