Work is due to begin this autumn on a massive €200 million redevelopment project at Limerick Institute of Technology.
Details of the proposed investment will not be made public until next month, however it is understood the project will be one of the biggest of its kind over the next decade.
Some €20 million is already in place for the first phase of a 15-year plan which is expected to create 3,000 jobs over its lifetime.
Limerick Institute of Technology is preparing to increase its student numbers from 6,000 to 9,000 by 2030.
Details will not be officially unveiled until September, but it is known that the main LIT campus in Moylish and the Limerick School of Art and Design will both benefit.
LIT president Dr Maria Hinfelaar revealed details of the project on Limerick radio station Live 95FM yesterday.
“It’s a very ambitious plan and it’s not as if we haven’t been developing over the past 20 years,” she said, “but we need to prepare ourselves for the next 20 years and this master plan will take us to 2030 and that’s how far we are looking ahead.”
