Berlin - Just one German in five thinks Dr Helmut Kohl, their longest serving modern chancellor, should keep his seat in parliament following a financial scandal that has hobbled his conservative party, a poll showed yesterday. Seventy per cent of voters said the former Christian Democrat leader, who ruled for 16 years until 1998, should quit his remaining political office over his campaign funding misdemeanours. Only 22 per cent wanted him to stay and the rest expressed no opinion.
