22 residents evacuated in Dublin hostel fire

Twenty two people including 11 children were evacuated when a fire broke out at a health board hostel in Dublin overnight.

Twenty two people including 11 children were evacuated when a fire broke out at a health board hostel in Dublin overnight.

There were no serious injuries but the 11 mothers and 11 children who were in the hostel at the time were taken to Tallaght Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The blaze is thought to have been caused by a television which went on fire in the kitchen of the building on Oakley Road, Ranelagh.

The East Coast Area Health Board which runs the hostel says the resident caretaker extinguished the fire after it was detected at around 1.45 a.m.

There was some smoke damage caused and alternative accommodation is being sought to allow teh refurbishment of the building.
