Up to 270 jobs are expected to be created in Dublin as part of a new €20 million private nursing home development.
The facility is planned for the Newmarket-Mill Street area of south inner city Dublin, with construction set to begin by mid-summer.
Some 150 jobs will be created during the 12-month construction phase, while a further 120 administration and nursing posts will become available on completion.
Developer Martin Creedon said Dublin City Council granted planning permission, adding the home is expected to be up and running by the middle of next year.
“This is a very exciting project for an area of the city that has suffered badly in the downturn,” Mr Creedon said.
“We hope to transform a derelict site into a top class nursing home which will provide 120 skilled and unskilled permanent jobs many of which can be taken up by local people.”
The nursing home will be sited next to St James’s Hospital and Mr Creedon said it is hoped it will be able to accommodate elderly people living in the area needing nursing home care.
Mr Creedon said the bulk of the new jobs on completion will be in administration and auxiliary services, while about 25 per cent will be in nursing.
