Police in London have arrested a second suspect today over the fatal stabbing earlier this week of a schoolboy (14) whose father is from Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

Martin Dinnegan died after he was stabbed outside a chip shop in Islington on Tuesday evening, just a few hundred yards from his home.

Scotland Yard said detectives had arrested a man (20) at an address in Islington today. A boy (15) was arrested on Wednesday night and is being questioned.

The teenager's mother, Lorraine, said her son had been killed after looking "the wrong way" at a gang of up to 20 youths.

According to police, the attack happened after Martin and a group of friends became involved with another group of youths, following a verbal exchange. Up to 20 youths were at the scene.

The victim was a student at St Aloysius's College in Highgate, and school headmaster Tom Mannion said the family regularly holidayed in Mullingar.

The boy's murder was the latest in a spate of knife and gun killings of teenagers in London this month.
