3 men on bomb charge remanded

Three men, including a former member of Republican Sinn Fein's ardchomhairle, who face charges in connection with the discovery of a van-bomb near the Border in November 1995, were remanded until April at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday.

Mr Michael Hegarty (43), formerly of RSF's ardchomhairle, of Co Clare, with an address in Tallaght, is charged with unlawfully possessing an explosive substance , with intent to endanger life at Longfield, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan. Mr Robert Anthony McGilloway (28), of Derry city, with an address in Swords Road, Co Dublin, is charged with the possession of an explosive substance with in,tent to endanger life.

Mr Padraig Fee (18), of Tattyboy, Cnrrickmacross, is charged with unlawful possession of an explosive substance at Tattyboy on two separate occasions.

Assistant State Solicitor Mr Patrick Geraghty said Mr Hegarty brought a habeas corpus application before the High Court and judgment has been reserved. The court remanded Mr Hegarty in custody and Mr Fee and Mr McGilloway on continuing bail.
