AN interior designer who slipped and fell on her back at Dundrum Shopping Centre has been awarded almost £30,000 damages in the Circuit Civil Court.

Ms Christine Cantwell, of Mather Road North, Mount Merrion, Co Dublin, told her counsel, Mr Paul McGettigan, she landed on her bottom and struck her elbows on tiles. Following the accident in July 1993, she had severe pain in both elbows, her shoulder and lower back and still had pain in her right elbow.

She told Judge Harvey Kenny the injuries affected her work and sports, including - hockey and pitch and putt She was still restricted in work on - her main hobby of upholstery.

Mr Terry O'Sullivan, counsel for the shopping mall owners, the Erin Executor and Trustee Company Ltd, told the court liability was conceded.

Judge Kenny dismissed a motion to transfer the claim to the High Court and awarded £28,000 damages with special damages of £1,903. He granted Mr O'Sullivan a stay to appeal to the High Court on the basis that Ms Cantwell be paid £20,000 in the meantime.
