MORE THAN 300 anti drug protesters staged peaceful demonstration at Oliver Bond Street flats in Dublin's inner city last night calling for local drug dealers to leave the area.
The protesters marched from the School Street flats complex to Oliver Bond Street, where they were addressed by a spokesman who accused a local family of involvement in drug dealing.
"We had a major dealer living there and members of his family are now here. They won't terrorise us anymore. You are scum bags and we will get you out one way or another. We will not tolerate drug dealing in our area anymore," the spokesman, who declined to be named, said.
The spokesman said that the local community would continue in its efforts to rid the area of drug pushers. "You think this is good. We're going to triple it. Next time there will be 10,000 people here," he said. Several anti drugs protests have taken place in the area in recent weeks according to the Garda.
Many of the protesters were "parents accompanied by children."
"I'm here because of concern about the level of drug dealing in the area. It's rife with drugs and people are dealing here every day, of the week," said a local man, Mr Andre Lider.
