More than 30 jobs will be lost at the Daret manufacturing plant in Finisklin, Sligo, which is to close at the end of May. Management at the American cosmetics display plant confirmed yesterday that all of the 32 employees were being made redundant.
A company spokesperson said every effort had been made to keep the plant open, but increased costs had made this unfeasible. "Our factory is the latest victim to suffer from increasing costs such as energy and labour, and competition from low-cost economies," said the spokesperson.
Established in New York in 1969, Daret manufactures promotional displays for all the major international cosmetic brands. It set up a plant in Sligo in 1986 as part of its European operations.
