Ireland's longest running arts festival kicks off today in Kilkenny with organisers hoping to generate €8 million for the local economy.
More than 80,000 people are expected to attend events in the Marble City over the next 10 days, with comedy, music, book readings and food fairs lined up to entertain the crowds.
The Kilkenny Arts Festival is celebrating its 33rd birthday, with the focus this year on classical acts, young people's performances and world, traditional and jazz music.
Highlights include performances by the world-renowned Argento Chamber Ensemble, an Asian-flavoured evening entitled Masala, visual arts exhibitions and readings by authors Darren Shan and Alex Barclay.
Musical acts include dance floor jazz from the Five Corners Quintet, traditional music from Teada & Beoga and funky African sounds from Nigerian Femi Kuti.
