THE FAMILY of a carpenter who died in hospital days after sustaining fatal injuries in an incident which occurred after he engaged in some “tomfoolery” have secured €350,000 in settlement of High Court proceedings. The settlement is without admission of liability.

Pádraig McCartan SC, for the family of Peter O Flinn, said O Flinn was a pedestrian who was tipping forward the windscreen wipers of a car driven by his work colleague Derek Clarke when Mr Clarke’s foot slipped off the clutch, causing the car to jump forward suddenly. O Flinn was knocked to the ground and died some days later from head injuries.

The incident occurred on May 17th, 2005, and O Flinn (23), of Beauparc Crescent, Clongriffin, Dublin, died at Beaumont Hospital on May 20th.

The proceedings were taken on behalf of the family by O Flinn’s partner – Susan Weston (25), of Beauparc Crescent Clongriffin, Dublin, against Mr Clarke, of Oatfield Avenue, Clondalkin.
