SHANNON DEVELOPMENT has launched an eight-house, €3 million live/work housing project in Tarbert, Co Kerry, on the Shannon estuary. Its promoters have declared it the State’s first “e-town” project.
Launched yesterday, the development, which is near a planned natural gas hub, offers an ideal work-life balance, according to Shannon Development. Prices for the architect-designed homes start at €239,000.
The e-town concept involves providing advanced broadband access and a community-based training programme to help people use it.
It is designed to help create an alternative enterprise culture in each community.
Residents of the Tarbert area were offered a free three-month course in web authoring which allowed them to establish a new community website for the town, www.tarbert.ie
RTÉ broadcaster and Kerry native Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh launched the development.
“As a broadcaster and author I know that Tarbert e-town will appeal to a range of entrepreneurs as it offers not only first-class living and work accommodation, but also creates the opportunity for people to enjoy a better quality of family life,” he said.
Dr Vincent Cunnane, chief executive of Shannon Development, said the project had the potential to create new jobs and vibrant business clusters.
The State’s first liquefied natural gas terminal is being proposed for a site near Tarbert.
An e-town showhouse will be open for viewing in Tarbert on Sundays from 11am until 3pm, starting on April 18th.
