An estimated 40,000 marchers took part in six Royal Black Institution demonstrations in various parts of Northern Ireland on Saturday, reports Monika Unsworth in Belfast. The parades formed the end of the loyal order marching season.
In its resolution the Royal Black Institution, a senior branch of the Orange Order, stated that terrorism and political blackmail could "never be compatible with democracy".
The institution reaffirmed the loyalty and devotion of its members to the queen and pledged to uphold the Reformed Protestant faith. It also said it would remain "rock solid" in defence of the liberty of all British citizens throughout the United Kingdom.
