A man who pleaded guilty to damaging the shore at Ringaskiddy, Co Cork, by removing 400 tons of sand, is to offer compensation to Cork Harbour Commissioners. John O'Callaghan (31), from Jalna, Barnahely, Co Cork, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to causing criminal damage to the shore on August 27th, 1994.

Defence counsel Mr Brendan Grehan said his client wanted an adjournment to see if he could raise £500 compensation. Prosecuting counsel Ms Una Ni Raifeartaigh agreed.

Judge Kieran O'Connor remanded O'Callaghan on continuing bail to July 29th when Sgt Willy Dooley of Ringaskiddy will give evidence.
