There were 405 people arrested for drink-driving offences over the Easter weekend, according to Garda figures released today.
In 2007, 441 motorists were arrested between Good Friday and Easter Monday after being breath-tested at Garda checkpoints.
The figures also show that there were 464 drink-driving arrests in the four days leading up to and including St Patrick's Day.
Just two people were killed during the combined St Patrick's Day and Easter bank holiday weekend period. The equivalent figure in 2007 was 11.
